St. Louis Cardinals face significant roster and coaching changes

The St. Louis Cardinals are undergoing several organizational shifts as they navigate a rebuilding phase under baseball operations leader Chaim Bloom. The team has announced it is moving on from hitting coach Brant Brown after two seasons. Despite individual successes from players like Jordan Walker and Alec Burleson, the offense struggled in 2026, ranking second-worst in the league in slugging percentage (.378) and OPS (.691).

As the team prepares for the 2027 season, several roster needs have emerged. Analysts suggest the bullpen requires urgent improvement after the team tied for the third-most blown saves in the league. Additionally, the starting rotation is a priority for upgrades. While there has been speculation regarding reunions with former players like Dustin May and Jack Flaherty, others suggest the front office may instead look toward free agents or consider trading high-value young assets like Walker and Burleson to further the rebuilding strategy.
