St. Louis Cardinals place Masyn Winn on injured list

The St. Louis Cardinals are placing shortstop Masyn Winn on the 10-day injured list due to a left thumb injury. Winn sustained the injury while sliding during a game in Cincinnati on August 19. While initial x-rays were negative, the team is awaiting MRI results to check for potential fractures. The injury is expected to sideline Winn for at least a week, with a potential return in early September.

To fill the vacancy, the Cardinals have recalled Nolan Gorman from Triple-A Memphis. Gorman, who had been struggling offensively before his demotion in June, was immediately slotted into the lineup as the designated hitter. JJ Wetherholt is expected to continue playing shortstop during Winn's absence.
