St. Maarten General Hospital construction site hosts parliamentary visit

Members of the Parliament's Committee on Public Health, Social Development, and Labor (VSA) recently conducted an official visit and guided tour of the St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) construction site. The delegation, which included Committee President MP Veronica Jansen-Webster, was received by St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) CEO Dr. Felix Holiday and the management team.

The new facility is designed to feature 104 beds, four operating rooms, expanded dialysis services, advanced diagnostic capabilities such as MRI, and a helicopter platform. Notably, the infrastructure is being built to operate independently for up to seven days following a disaster.

Following the tour, MP Jansen-Webster met with Minister of VSA Claret Connor to provide an update. While expressing satisfaction with the focus on human resources, Minister Connor raised concerns regarding potential delays. Current projections suggest the main building will be completed by June 30, 2027, with the transition phase beginning in mid-2027, though delays could push the final date to December 2027.
