St. Margaret's Church celebrates 500th anniversary in Žlebe

The community of Žlebe celebrated the 500th anniversary of the St. Margaret of Antioch branch church on August 30, 2026. The milestone coincided with the completion of a comprehensive 14-year restoration project.

Preparations for the renovation began in 2011. Following severe storm damage to the presbytery roof in 2013, experts from the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia were consulted to ensure the long-term preservation of the structure. The restoration involved numerous local craftsmen and volunteers, including work on the roof, bell tower platforms, and the restoration of the St. Margaret statue.

The anniversary celebrations included a solemn mass led by Milan Bizant and Parish Priest Jure Koželj, followed by community gatherings. The event served as both a commemoration of the church's five-century history and a celebration of the local community in the Medvode municipality.
