St. Paul supports plan for eight affordable homes

St. Paul Affordable Community Housing (SPACH) is moving forward with a plan to construct eight affordable homes in St. Paul. The project involves building two four-unit townhouses on lots pledged by the Town at 5021 and 5025 51 Avenue.

The Town council has approved $15,000 toward subdivision costs and has directed administration to evaluate necessary water and sewer upgrades for inclusion in the 2027 budget. SPACH intends to apply for federal funding through the Build Canada Homes program to support the initiative.

Unlike previous provincial funding attempts that required rental properties, this model focuses on affordable home ownership. SPACH will act as a facilitator rather than a long-term owner, contributing approximately 25 percent of the appraised value through land, fundraising, and pro bono work to reduce the financing required by eligible homeowners.
