St Paul’s Cathedral partners with Fabric nightclub for music events

St Paul’s Cathedral has entered a four-year partnership with the London nightclub Fabric to host contemporary music events through 2030. The deal, described by organizers as an “extraordinary and unexpected coming together,” will feature seated concerts by various musicians and DJs. The first event is scheduled for October 29.

The partnership has drawn sharp criticism from the Nelson Society, which represents the interests of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, who is buried in the cathedral’s crypt. Society president Peregrine Hood described the move as “insult,” “insanity,” and “an act of self-destruction,” questioning the spiritual integrity of the site. Critics have characterized the plan as “dancing on graves.”

While the cathedral has hosted musical performances since the 1950s, the involvement of Fabric—a prominent electronic music venue—has sparked debate regarding the use of the historic religious landmark. The Mayor of London’s culture team has supported the development as part of the city's nightlife landscape.
