St. Peter Quamichan Anglican Church celebrates 160 years

The Anglican Church of St. Peter Quamichan is preparing to host an evening celebration titled ‘Past, Present, and Future’ on October 24 to mark its 160th anniversary in the Cowichan Valley.

Incumbent parish priest Theo Robinson noted that the church holds the distinction of being the oldest parish still operating on its original site in the region. While the parish was established in 1866, the original structure was a small log building erected in 1867. This was later replaced by the current building, which was completed around late 1876 or 1877.

The church grounds and cemetery, which also date back to 1866, attract between 50 and 100 visitors daily. Notable residents interred in the cemetery include several early settlers and the brother of the famous Dracula author, Bram Stoker.
