St Peters Lutheran College reviews speaker selection after controversial comments
St Peters Lutheran College in Indooroopilly, Brisbane, is reviewing its guest speaker selection process following a controversial chapel service. During the service, Jonathan Vickers, a ministry trainee from St Lucia Bible Church, told year 7 and 8 students that gay people would go to hell.
College head Tim Kotzur issued a statement expressing regret that the comments caused concern within the community. He emphasized that the school believes the dignity and worth of every person is not conditional on identity or sexuality, and that the college does not support messages that diminish respect or belonging.
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie also condemned the remarks, describing them as completely inappropriate. The school is currently examining the circumstances of the service to ensure future external speakers align with the institution's educational philosophy and values.
