Miller Mansion fire engulfs historic building in St. Petersburg
A major fire broke out on Thursday evening at the historic Miller Mansion, located on St. Isaac’s Square in central St. Petersburg, Russia. The blaze, which affected a four-story building of regional cultural heritage significance, quickly expanded from an initial 450 square meters to cover approximately 2,000 square meters.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations raised the fire's difficulty level to the third tier. More than 120 firefighters and approximately 25 pieces of equipment were deployed to contain the flames. While the fire posed a threat to neighboring structures and caused traffic disruptions in the area, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
The 18th-century complex, which features Italian Renaissance elements, was undergoing restoration with significant funding intended to convert it into a luxury residential complex by 2027. The Admiralteysky District prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
