St. Petersburg woman charged with attempted murder after gas station attack

Eleanor Crawford, 41, has been charged with attempted murder and arson following a violent attack at a Mobil gas station in St. Petersburg, Florida. According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 10.

Authorities report that Crawford approached a 41-year-old victim, whom she did not know, and initially asked to borrow her phone. After the victim allowed her to use the device, Crawford allegedly asked for money. When the victim refused, Crawford reportedly used a lighter to ignite the gasoline nozzle. The resulting flames engulfed the victim's vehicle and caused the woman to suffer horrific second-degree burns.

A witness assisted the victim by moving her to a truck before calling 911. Police apprehended Crawford nearby approximately 20 minutes after the attack. Investigators noted that Crawford has an extensive criminal history involving drug and alcohol-related charges. The victim was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.
