St Petroc’s Care Home in Bodmin granted planning approval for expansion

Cornwall Council has granted conditional planning approval for the expansion of St Petroc’s Care Home on St Nicholas Street in Bodmin. The project, proposed by operators Stonehaven Care, involves several structural changes to the Grade II listed building.

The plans include the demolition of a modern staircase ‘link’ located between the main listed building and a later bedroom annex. In its place, the developers intend to construct a first-storey and rear single-storey extension of the bedroom annex, which will also feature a platform lift to improve accessibility. The expansion aims to increase the facility's capacity by three additional bedrooms.

The proposal faced seven objections from local residents. Primary concerns included the potential for the new upper-storey windows to overlook neighboring private gardens and bedrooms, the use of materials within the conservation area, and the potential loss of natural light for adjacent properties.
