St. Pölten court convicts 15-year-old for extortion

A 15-year-old from the Wienerwald region appeared before the St. Pölten Regional Court after failing to comply with the conditions of a previous diversion. The teenager was accused of ambushing and pursuing a victim in Eichgraben alongside two other minors, extorting 100 euros, and threatening physical violence. During the incident, the suspect also allegedly showed the victim a video of an individual being struck.

In May, the court had offered a diversion involving 80 hours of community service, but the teenager failed to complete the hours or attend scheduled meetings with probation services. Consequently, the judge found the youth guilty and imposed a three-year probationary period. The sentence includes mandatory anti-violence training and continued probation assistance. While the defendant waived the right to appeal, the verdict is not yet legally binding as the prosecution has not issued a statement.
