St. Veit an der Glan begins 663rd Wiesenmarkt festival
The 663rd Wiesenmarkt is opening in St. Veit an der Glan, recognized as the oldest folk festival in Carinthia. The ten-day event is expected to draw approximately 300,000 visitors and generate revenues in the double-digit millions.
The festivities begin with a traditional parade featuring 1,700 participants, including folk music bands and various local associations. The market includes festival tents, rides, an economic showcase, and a merchant market.
To manage the large crowds, authorities have implemented a security concept involving increased police presence, additional security personnel for evening hours, and the use of drones. Transportation support includes extra ÖBB train services and shuttle buses to facilitate travel without cars.
