St. Vincent and the Grenadines schools face staggered reopening

Most primary, secondary, and technical-vocational schools in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 7, 2026, for the start of the 2026–2027 academic year. However, six institutions will follow a staggered reopening schedule to allow for the completion of essential maintenance and repair works.

Brighton Methodist School, Calder Government School, Buccament Bay Secondary School, and Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia are set to resume classes on Wednesday, September 9. St. Mary’s Roman Catholic School and Langley Park Government School will reopen later, on Monday, September 14. The Ministry of Education stated these delays are necessary to ensure facilities are safe and fully prepared for students and staff.

The government is currently managing an extensive rehabilitation programme involving repairs to roofs, electrical systems, drainage, and water infrastructure. Additionally, a EC$73 million School Improvement Project funded by the Caribbean Development Bank is underway to renovate eight schools and construct a new Sandy Bay Secondary School. Senator Lavern King noted that the government has allocated $7 million for school repairs this year to address property damage and infrastructure needs.
