St. Vincent Police correct manslaughter charge against Stubbs woman

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has corrected an earlier statement regarding a criminal charge in connection with the death of 56-year-old labourer Vernan Alexander. While initial reports indicated that 26-year-old Bethany Cordice of Stubbs had been charged with murder, the police clarified that she has instead been charged with manslaughter.

The charge follows an investigation into an incident on August 5, 2026, in Largo Height. Investigators allege that Cordice caused Alexander’s death by striking him on the forehead with a piece of steel.

Cordice appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on September 8. She was granted bail in the amount of EC$40,000 with one surety. Bail conditions include surrendering all travel documents, reporting to the Central Police Station every Monday and Thursday, and remaining subject to stop notices at all ports of entry and exit. The case is scheduled to continue before the Serious Offences Court on September 24, 2026.
