Stabbing homicides in Brazil lead to arrests of suspects

In the western district of Franca, São Paulo state, 35‑year‑old Leandro de Melo Ribeiro was fatally stabbed after a dispute with relatives. Police located the alleged attacker, 34‑year‑old Felipe Ribeiro dos Santos, a cousin of the victim, who confessed and was taken into custody. The weapon was recovered nearby and the case was handed to the civil police for further investigation.

In General Carneiro, Paraná, 37‑year‑old Gelson Pereira, known locally as “Nego Amaral”, died from head wounds inflicted with a knife during a renewed argument with a longtime adversary. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the attack, admitted responsibility and surrendered the weapon, which was seized by authorities. The investigation is now under the jurisdiction of the local civil police.

Both incidents prompted immediate emergency response, but the victims succumbed to their injuries despite medical efforts. Authorities in each city have opened investigations to determine the exact motives behind the homicides.
