Stablecoin adoption and regulation drive focus in Brazil and Mexico
Stablecoin adoption and regulation are central themes in the financial sectors of Brazil and Mexico. According to data from the Receita Federal, stablecoins accounted for approximately 80% of declared crypto-asset volume in Brazil in 2025, with R$ 1.13 trillion in transactions reported between August 2019 and December 2025.
A survey conducted by Ripple involving finance leaders in Mexico and Brazil revealed that 69% of respondents are either currently using stablecoins or plan to adopt them for payments and treasury management within one to two years. Despite this interest, regulatory clarity remains a primary concern for 48% of surveyed financial institutions, followed by security and compliance complexity.
In Brazil, the Central Bank recently implemented new rules for virtual-asset service providers as of February 2026. Industry representatives, including Coinbase, have advocated for clear and proportional regulation that ensures market security without creating unnecessary barriers to innovation, specifically questioning proposals regarding the preventive retention of large transfers to self-custody wallets.
