Stacey Humphreys scheduled for Georgia execution

Stacey Humphreys, 53, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on September 16 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. The execution comes 23 years after Humphreys was convicted for the 2003 murders of Cynthia Williams and Lori Brown, two real estate workers in Cobb County.

During a recent appeal hearing, defense attorney Jill Benton sought a new trial, alleging juror misconduct and bias during the original 2007 conviction proceedings. Prosecutors dismissed these claims, arguing that the evidence should have been presented much earlier. A judge is expected to issue a decision regarding the appeal shortly.

Humphreys has requested a large last meal consisting of barbecue beef brisket, pork ribs, a bacon double cheeseburger, French fries, coleslaw, cornbread, buffalo wings, a meat lover’s pan pizza, and ice cream with two sodas.
