Stade Barea renovation faces parliamentary inquiry in Madagascar

Madagascar is facing significant financial and sporting challenges due to the Stade Barea in Mahamasina failing to secure definitive homologation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). As a result, the national team, the Barea, and local clubs are forced to play international matches abroad, incurring high logistical costs estimated between $70,000 and $120,000 per match for a delegation of 35 to 45 members.

A parliamentary inquiry is currently investigating the massive budgets allocated to the stadium's renovation between 2019 and 2025. National Assembly President Siteny Thierry Randrianasoloniaiko noted that the investment reached approximately $120 million, a figure higher than the previously announced $77 million.

The parliamentary commission, led by Sylvestre Mahavitara, is collecting technical documents and working with various oversight bodies, including Bianco and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, to examine public procurement and bidding processes. The commission aims to complete the investigation within four months to provide transparency regarding these presidential projects.
