Stade Rennais moves to sign Benfica forward and target Wolfsburg defender

Stade Rennais is set to complete the signing of an attacking player from Portuguese club Benfica ahead of the international break, aiming to bolster a strike force that has struggled for consistency. The club has already reached a decisive stage in negotiations, with the player expected to join the red‑and‑black squad soon.

In parallel, Rennes is negotiating a deal for German defender Saël Kumbedi, currently at Wolfsburg, with a reported fee of around €10 million plus bonuses. The transfer is motivated by a need to strengthen the right side of the defence, and the player has reportedly given a provisional agreement to join Rennes, attracted by the project under coach Franck Haise and the prospect of European competition.

Both moves reflect Rennes’ strategy to act early in the summer market, securing key additions before the World Cup pause and before the main transfer window tightens.
