Stade Rennais signs Eliezer Mayenda from Sunderland for over €22m
Stade Rennais has completed the signing of 21‑year‑old striker Eliezer Mayenda from Sunderland on a five‑year contract. The deal is reported to be worth roughly €22‑25 million, providing Sunderland with a sizable profit from the player’s three‑year spell in England.
Mayenda, a product of FC Sochaux’s academy, made 72 appearances and scored 12 goals for Sunderland but struggled for regular game time in the Premier League. The French club expects him to bolster its attack as it prepares for Europa League competition. Thanks to a retained‑percentage clause, Sochaux is set to receive about €4 million from the transfer, highlighting the financial benefits of its youth development model.
