Stade Rochelais announces new signings Sione Ahio and Théo McFarland
Stade Rochelais has announced two significant additions to its squad ahead of the new season.
New Zealand tighthead prop Sione Ahio, 25, joins the club following a standout season with the Chiefs in Super Rugby. La Rochelle’s scrum coach, Uini Atonio, praised Ahio’s rapid development, noting that the player’s performance had brought him close to All Blacks selection. Ahio arrives to bolster a front row that has seen recent departures.
Additionally, the club has signed Samoan international Théo McFarland. The 30-year-old back-rower joins from the English club Saracens. McFarland brings a unique athletic background, having previously played international basketball, which the club notes provides him with exceptional coordination and aerial ability. He has already integrated into the squad during recent training and preseason matches.
