French rugby clubs prepare for 2026/2027 season

French rugby clubs are preparing for the upcoming season with significant changes to competition formats and team identities. The In Extenso Supersevens is transitioning to a fully mixed format, featuring both men’s and women’s teams competing across two-day events, including night sessions, to increase visibility and festive atmosphere.

In preparation for the Top 14, Stade Rochelais and Union Bordeaux-Bègles (UBB) are set to face each other in a pre-season friendly. Stade Rochelais has overhauled its training methods, moving from purely physical work to more rugby-focused drills to mitigate previous injury issues. UBB captain Maxime Lucu noted that the match will be a vital test of physical contact and rhythm following intensive physical preparation.

Both clubs have also unveiled new kits for the 2026/2027 season. Stade Rochelais introduced a beehive-inspired design, with black home and yellow away jerseys, symbolizing collective strength. UBB revealed an away kit featuring a checkerboard pattern to honor the club's heritage. Meanwhile, Biarritz Olympique is also pursuing a lifestyle-oriented brand strategy with its new collection.
