Stadler submits sole bid for Oradea tram-train project

Swiss manufacturer Stadler has submitted the only bid for a major tender to provide 14 electric tram-trains for Oradea, Romania. The project, managed by the Bihor County Council, is valued at approximately 462 million lei (90.5 million euros) and includes maintenance and repair services.

The bid was submitted by Stadler Polska through its Polish subsidiary, with Stadler Rail Valencia acting as a third party. This marks the company’s first participation in a rolling stock tender organized by a Romanian public authority. The project aims to connect the municipality of Oradea with its metropolitan area using electric traction.

Development of the tram-train project has progressed through feasibility studies, a protocol with the National Railway Company (CFR SA), and a funding request submitted in December 2024.
