Stadskanaal fairytale path creator quits due to vandalism

Bert Ligteneigen, the creator of the 'Sprookjespad' (Fairytale Path) in the Pagebos, has announced he is permanently stopping his work on the project due to repeated vandalism. After discovering a broken entrance on Monday morning, Ligteneigen stated that his motivation has finally run out, despite having rebuilt parts of the path following previous incidents in June.

Ligteneigen noted that the path had attracted various visitors, including school groups and walkers from surrounding areas like Hoogeveen. He expressed disappointment regarding a lack of assistance or response from the owner of the forest, the Municipality of Stadskanaal.

While he intends to continue his volunteer work for the municipality in other capacities within the Pagebos, he will no longer maintain the fairytale path. He hopes a successor will take over the project; otherwise, he plans to remove any broken components to leave the area as safe as possible.
