Stadtschloss Weimar reopens after eight-year renovation

The Stadtschloss Weimar has officially reopened to the public following an extensive eight-year renovation process that began in 2018. Managed by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the castle's reopening is being marked with a dedicated theme year.

A central feature of the reopening is a new permanent exhibition located in the restored Beletage of the castle's east wing. This exhibition explores the castle's historical significance as a residence and a center of political power during the era of Weimar Classicism. The display includes high-profile artworks, such as selections from the Cranach collection and paintings by Caspar David Friedrich.

The exhibition also examines the legacy and afterlife of the Weimar Classicism movement, integrating authentic historical objects with contemporary perspectives.
