Staffordshire and Lancashire councils allocate millions for resurfacing hundreds of roads

Staffordshire County Council released a list of 96 pothole‑riddled roads in the Moorlands slated for preventative carriageway treatment, with works beginning on 10 August and a temporary 10 mph speed limit in place.

Lancashire County Council added £5 million to its highways budget, bringing the total number of roads to be resurfaced in 2026/27 to more than 160 across 59 routes. The projects include full resurfacing and surface‑dressing, chosen on data‑driven need rather than political lobbying, according to cabinet member for highways Warren Goldsworthy and Conservative group leader Aidy Riggott.
