Staffordshire Police crack down on dangerous off-road vehicle gangs
Staffordshire Police have launched an crackdown against gangs using off-road motorcycles, electric scooters, and quads, describing the groups as ‘dangerous’. Recent enforcement actions resulted in the arrest of 29 individuals and the seizure of over 100 illegal vehicles across the county.
Ben Adams, the Staffordshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, noted that riders often wear balaclavas to hide their faces, creating an intimidating environment. The crackdown follows reports of riders damaging park lawns and sports clubs, as well as performing dangerous stunts on residential streets. Adams highlighted the physical risks, citing a recent incident in Tamworth where a young woman was seriously injured by riders on a public path.
To combat the issue, authorities plan to deploy specialized equipment, including off-road motorcycles and police dogs. Local residents have expressed concerns regarding drug-related issues and street accidents, with some community members previously hesitant to report incidents due to a perceived lack of police action.
