Staige and DSW21 pilot AI security at Dortmund Hauptbahnhof

Staige One AG and Dortmunder Stadtwerke (DSW21) are launching a multi-month pilot program in August 2026 to implement AI-supported security solutions at Dortmund Hauptbahnhof. The project utilizes Edge AI technology to enhance safety within the public transport area, specifically targeting the distribution level above the light rail station.

The system uses semantic video analysis to augment existing camera infrastructure, allowing for the detection of potential hazards, falls, or unusual movement patterns without requiring extensive new installations. A primary focus of the technology is managing large crowds and major events, which can be difficult for human operators to monitor effectively via traditional cameras.

To maintain privacy and operational efficiency, the analysis runs in the background. Security personnel in the control center do not view continuous video feeds; the system is designed to alert staff only when a critical situation is identified.
