Stal Gorzów faces 3.9 million PLN deficit amid rising player salaries
Stal Gorzów, a prominent Polish speedway club, is facing significant financial difficulties, reporting a budget deficit of 3.9 million PLN as of late July. During a Gorzów Wielkopolski City Council session, Managing Director Magdalena Ciszek-Kozłowska revealed that player salaries have surged fourfold, now exceeding 13 million PLN and accounting for approximately 55% of the club's budget.
While the club has received 2.35 million PLN in municipal subsidies and generated revenue through sponsors, the Ekstraliga, and ticket sales, the current income remains below the annual plan of 19.5 million PLN. To assist, the City Council approved a budget shift providing an additional 1.5 million PLN in support, though club management noted this amount will not be sufficient to fully balance the budget.
Other major expenditures include 4.3 million PLN for event organization, 5.4 million PLN for operational costs and utilities, and nearly 1 million PLN for loan repayments. The cost of organizing a single away league match is reported to exceed 350,000 PLN.
