Stalybridge multi-storey car park project approved with £4.7m budget

Tameside Council is set to finalize a deal to construct a new multi-storey car park in Stalybridge, with a budget of approximately £4.7 million. The project, which will be undertaken by Galliford Try, is funded through nearly £20 million received from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

The new facility will replace the existing Waterloo Road surface car park, expanding capacity from 59 spaces to 171. The four-level structure will include dedicated spaces for motorcycles, electric vehicles, and accessible parking. The development is a key component of the Stalybridge West infrastructure package, aimed at supporting town centre regeneration and future economic growth.

Construction is expected to be completed by the spring of 2028. During the building process, the council plans to provide a temporary parking area at the Castle Street car park to mitigate the loss of the Waterloo Road site. The project also aligns with broader regional ambitions to unlock investment and deliver new housing in the area.
