Stan Wawrinka and several tennis icons retire from ATP Tour

A significant number of prominent tennis players are concluding their professional careers in 2026, including four Grand Slam champions. Among the notable departures is Swiss player Stan Wawrinka, who is set to play his final official tournament in Basel next week. Wawrinka, 41, reached a career-high ranking of number three, won 16 singles titles, and secured three Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and the US Open.

Other major figures exiting the tour include doubles specialists and singles players such as Jamie Murray, Rajeev Ram, and Joe Salisbury. The wave of retirements marks the end of an era for several nations, including Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, and Canada, as veteran players who competed during the era of the ‘Big Three’ step away from professional competition.
