Stanbic Bank Ghana and RD Technologies partner for stablecoin trade settlements

Stanbic Bank Ghana and RD Technologies have announced a partnership to explore a bank-led, stablecoin-supported solution for cross-border trade settlements. The initiative aims to facilitate B2B payments from Ghanaian businesses to suppliers in Asia, addressing the high costs, complexity, and time delays often associated with multiple intermediaries in current payment processes.

Under the proposed model, Stanbic Bank Ghana will maintain its role as the primary service provider, managing customer onboarding, KYC (Know Your Customer) procedures, transaction approvals, local currency settlement, and regulatory compliance. RD Technologies will provide the necessary payment technology, digital asset infrastructure, and access to its Asian settlement network to coordinate overseas payments.

The project will utilize stablecoin technology to support the underlying cross-border settlement layer, though corporate clients will interact with the system through standard banking services without needing to manage digital assets directly. The next phases of the collaboration include regulatory communication, technical verification, and the design of a controlled pilot program.
