Stanbic Bank Zambia advocates for borderless African energy markets

Stanbic Bank Zambia has advocated for the creation of a borderless African energy market to drive industrialization and economic growth. Speaking at the Energy Forum for Africa Conference 2026 in Lusaka, Stanbic Bank Zambia Chief Executive Mwindwa Siakalima emphasized that linking regional power pools, such as the Southern African Power Pool and the East African Power Pool, is essential for energy security.

Siakalima noted that a unified infrastructure would allow electricity to flow from surplus regions to deficit centers. He highlighted that Zambia has implemented policy reforms to develop competitive electricity markets, enabling local businesses to participate as traders within regional pools. These reforms are intended to attract investment and support the country’s transition toward private sector-led sustainable growth.

As a platinum sponsor of the conference, Stanbic Bank is focusing its growth strategy on energy and infrastructure financing to support Africa’s economic transformation.
