Standard Chartered Bank Uganda donates US$ 50,000 for Ebola prevention

Standard Chartered Bank Uganda has donated US$ 50,000, approximately Shs 186 million, to Save the Children International – Uganda. The funds are intended to support communities affected by the recent Ebola crisis and to strengthen prevention efforts following Uganda’s declaration as Ebola-free.

The donation will facilitate risk communication, community engagement, infection prevention and control, early detection, and the dissemination of trusted health information. These initiatives aim to help families and frontline communities recognize symptoms and seek care according to Ministry of Health guidance.

Charles Katongole, Acting CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Uganda, stated that continued vigilance is essential to maintaining the country’s Ebola-free status. He noted that the bank remains committed to Uganda’s national development agenda, having arranged financing for four government projects worth approximately EUR 752 million this year, covering sectors such as power transmission, water, sanitation, and infrastructure.
