Standard Chartered launches institutional crypto spot trading in UAE

Standard Chartered has launched institutional spot trading for Bitcoin and Ether in the United Arab Emirates through its Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) branch. This move makes the bank the first Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB) to offer deliverable spot cryptocurrency trading in the UAE.

The service is integrated into the bank’s existing electronic trading channels and foreign exchange interfaces, allowing eligible institutional clients to execute trades using familiar platforms. Clients have the flexibility to settle trades with any custodian of their choice, including Standard Chartered’s own digital-asset custody service which was established in the UAE in September 2024.

This expansion follows the bank’s previous launch of similar institutional spot trading services through its UK subsidiary in July 2025. The new offering is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) and is part of a broader digital asset strategy that includes custody, trading, and tokenization capabilities.
