Standard goalkeeper Matthieu Epolo avoids serious injury after collision
Standard Liège goalkeeper Matthieu Epolo has escaped serious injury following a heavy collision with Rafiu Durosinmi during Racing Genk’s 2-1 victory on Sunday.
The incident occurred during a decisive phase of the match after Junya Ito had given Genk the lead. Epolo came out of his area to intercept Durosinmi but handled the ball outside the penalty area, resulting in a red card. During the challenge, the 21-year-old Congolese goalkeeper also took a knee to the face, leaving him momentarily unconscious and causing significant concern for the medical staff and supporters.
Despite the impact, reports indicate that Epolo was merely dazed and is expected to make a full recovery without a long-term absence. However, he faces a potential multi-match suspension due to the red card, which may still leave Standard without their regular goalkeeper for several upcoming fixtures.
