Standard Group condemns protest at Nairobi offices

The Standard Group has condemned a protest at its Nairobi offices along Mombasa Road, accusing a group of youths of harassing staff and threatening media freedom. The protesters claimed the media house was biased in its reporting.

In a statement issued on October 2, 2026, the company noted that the group claimed to represent President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration. The media organization described the incident as an affront to democracy and cited Articles 33 and 34 of the Constitution, which protect freedom of expression and the media.

The group also allegedly directed insults at KANU Party Chairman Gideon Moi and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing them of influencing critical headlines. The Standard Group rejected these claims, stating its journalism is guided by professionalism and the public interest. The company further alleged that this group has previously targeted other outlets, including KTN, over their coverage of the current administration.
