Standard de Liège advances to Croky Cup round of 16

Standard de Liège has qualified for the round of 16 in the Croky Cup after defeating FCV Dender 2-0. Despite the victory, the performance raised concerns regarding the team's stability following a string of three consecutive league defeats.

Coach Vincent Euvrard noted that while the primary goal of qualification was achieved, the team experienced a “horrible quarter-hour” during the second half where they were overwhelmed by Dender. Euvrard emphasized that advancing was “vital” to maintain any hope for European qualification through the cup.

Goalkeeper Matthieu Epolo was credited with keeping the team steady during periods of pressure. However, he cautioned against overconfidence, stating that there is “still much work to be done” as the team shifts focus to their upcoming league match against Genk.

The match also featured several personal narratives, including former Standard academy players returning to Sclessin. Dender's lineup included Adam Nhaili and goalkeeper Louis Fortin, both of whom previously played for the Liège-based club.
