Standard & Poor's conducts sovereign credit review in Honduras
Standard & Poor's Global Ratings (S&P) has arrived in Honduras for a two-day official visit to conduct a periodic review of the country's sovereign credit rating. The delegation is meeting with government authorities, including President Nasry Asfura, members of the National Congress, the Economic Cabinet, and private sector representatives.
The evaluation focuses on five fundamental pillars: institutional and governance profiles, economic conditions, external factors, fiscal status (including public debt structure), and monetary policy. This review follows a March update where S&P improved Honduras's outlook from negative to stable, while maintaining long- and short-term sovereign ratings at ‘BB-/B’ and transferability and convertibility at ‘BB-’.
S&P's analysis aims to assess the country's capacity to meet its debt obligations. The current stable outlook previously reflected significant shifts in government policy, specifically regarding fiscal consolidation and strengthened relationships with the private sector, multilateral credit institutions, and the United States.
