Standard & Poor’s reaffirms Albania’s ‘BB’ credit rating with stable outlook

Standard & Poor’s (S&P) has reaffirmed Albania’s long-term credit rating at ‘BB’ with a ‘stable’ outlook. This follows a similar positive assessment by Moody’s, signaling international confidence in the country’s economic trajectory.

Key indicators highlighted in the assessment include economic resilience, declining public debt, and fiscal discipline. Public debt is projected to decrease from 52.9% of GDP in 2025 to 50.5% by 2029. Additionally, the country has maintained a primary surplus since 2023.

Other notable economic factors include foreign exchange reserves reaching 8.1 billion euros as of late July 2026, representing 27% of GDP. The economy is expected to grow by approximately 3.4% in 2026, supported by tourism, private consumption, and investment. S&P also noted that Albania’s progress toward European Union membership has encouraged reforms in justice and anti-corruption efforts.
