Standards Organisation of Nigeria issues MANCAP certificates to local manufacturers
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to various local manufacturers to ensure compliance with Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS).
In Lagos, SON presented 207 MANCAP certificates to 117 companies, covering 449 different products. The certification scheme is designed to ensure locally manufactured goods meet required standards before export and to promote global competitiveness. Certificates are valid for three years, and SON will conduct periodic factory inspections, sampling, and laboratory testing to maintain compliance. Products failing to meet minimum requirements face suspension or withdrawal.
In Jigawa State, certificates were awarded to Hasinah Confectionery & Restaurant for sweetened yoghurt and BSBG Shukurah Ventures for bread. SON officials emphasized that the certification process provides assurance of quality, safety, and consumer protection, while helping to strengthen consumer confidence in locally produced goods.
