Stanford football players establish first CFBPA player‑led chapter

The College Football Players Association announced that Stanford University’s football team has created the first player‑led CFBPA chapter, organized as a fraternal association. Offensive lineman Fisher Anderson and linebacker Ernest Cooper were elected as the chapter’s representatives.

The chapter is intended to provide mentoring, education and a structure that could later support collective‑bargaining for college athletes, who are not currently recognized as employees. Player members pay no dues; alumni contribute $50 annually. CFBPA plans to roll out similar fraternities at other Power‑Five and Division I programs, and the move comes as the NCAA and lawmakers discuss legislation that could affect antitrust rules and potential employee status for athletes.
