Stanford overcomes California for dramatic CSL swimming victory
Stanford secured a dramatic victory over California in the third match of the College Swimming League (CSL) season at the Avery Aquatic Center. In a highly competitive meet, Stanford overcame a deficit of up to 70 points to win with a final score of 550 to 543.
The comeback was fueled by the Stanford women earning jackpot points following a disqualification from Ohio State during the super skins events. The victory was finalized during the men’s 200 medley relay when California’s relay team was disqualified after NCAA champion Yamato Okadome left early on the second leg.
Individual standout performances included Stanford’s Caroline Bricker, named the women’s MVP after winning the 200 butterfly, 200 IM, and 200 freestyle. Cal’s Ryan Erisman was named the men’s MVP, recording lifetime bests in the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly.
