Stanley Nwabali endorsed as Nigeria’s top goalkeeper

Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has endorsed Stanley Nwabali as the Super Eagles’ primary goalkeeper following Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Madagascar in a 2027 AFCON qualifier in Uyo.

Ikpeba cited Nwabali’s composure, leadership, and ability to perform in high-pressure situations as key factors that place him ahead of Maduka Okoye. During the match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Nwabali made a critical one-on-one save against Madagascar’s Rayan Raveloson in the 51st minute, an intervention Ikpeba believes prevented a potential equalizer or loss.

While Okoye had previously started recent friendlies, he remained on the bench for this qualifier after reportedly arriving late for international duty. Ikpeba noted that despite potential domestic debate, Nwabali’s performance and determination reinforce his standing as the first-choice shot-stopper under coach Eric Chelle.
