Stanthorpe named Australia's Top Tourism Town for 2026

Stanthorpe, a town located in the Granite Belt region of Queensland, has been named the Top Tourism Town at the 2026 Australia's Top Tourism Town Awards. Situated approximately 800 metres above sea level, the town is noted for its cool climate and distinct seasons, which contrast with the typical tropical weather of Queensland.

Key attractions in the region include its status as a major apple grower, various orchards for berries and stone fruit, and a wine-growing industry featuring over 40 cellar doors. The area also offers local cheese makers, craft breweries, and proximity to Girraween National Park, known for its granite boulders and monoliths.

Erin McLeod, CEO of the Australian Tourism Industry Council, stated that the town provides “outstanding visitor experiences with a strong sense of local character and a community that understands what it takes to create an exceptional visitor experience”.
