Stanwell begins $90M overhaul at Tarong Power Station

Stanwell has commenced a $90 million overhaul of Unit 3 at the Tarong Power Station. The planned outage began on August 21, 2026, and is expected to continue until November 6, 2026.

The maintenance program involves detailed inspections, refurbishment, and the replacement of plant equipment to improve the safety, performance, and long-term reliability of the unit. The project is expected to require approximately 500 additional tradespeople and technical contractors, including electricians, boilermakers, and welders, to work alongside the existing workforce.

Tarong and Stanwell power stations are significant contributors to the regional energy supply, producing approximately one-third of Queensland’s energy needs. This major overhaul is part of a regular four-year maintenance cycle for each unit at the station.
