Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke steps down

Michael O’Rourke has stepped down as CEO of Stanwell Corporation after nearly 30 years with the company. The state-owned energy entity stated that the Board determined it was the “right time for a leadership transition” to facilitate a fresh approach amid significant changes in Queensland’s energy sector.

Stanwell Chair Justin Parer thanked O’Rourke for his role in strengthening the business and positioning it for the future. Chief Operating Officer James Oliver has been appointed acting CEO while a permanent replacement is recruited. O’Rourke will assist during this transition period.

O’Rourke’s departure follows the resignation of CS Energy CEO Brian Gillespie in March. Stanwell operates major coal-fired power stations at Stanwell and Tarong, alongside battery and wind farm interests.
