US food recalls issued for uninspected meat and high-histamine tuna
Two separate food safety recalls have been issued in the United States involving meat and seafood products.
Star Meat Delivery Inc., based in North Carolina, has issued a Class I recall for approximately 167,639 pounds of raw pork, beef, and goat products. The USDA determined the meat was produced without federal inspection and featured a false inspection mark, “EST. 1363”. The products were distributed under the A&D Foods label to retailers and restaurants nationwide. While no illnesses have been reported, officials warn the meat may contain harmful bacteria or undeclared allergens.
Separately, Buckhead Meat Company, operating as Trinity Seafood in New Jersey, has recalled nearly 333 pounds of tuna. The recall was initiated after samples tested positive for high levels of scombrotoxin, which can cause scombroid poisoning. Symptoms may include nausea, dizziness, and respiratory distress. The affected tuna was distributed across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
