Star of Hope Foundation to sell Robert Indiana’s former Vinalhaven properties
The Star of Hope Foundation has announced plans to sell most of its property holdings on Vinalhaven, Maine, including the former home of the late artist Robert Indiana. The foundation, established by Indiana in 2016, intends to redirect these resources toward direct artistic and cultural initiatives on the island.
Key properties for sale include the Star of Hope Lodge at 46 Main St., listed for $1.4 million, and 10 Main St., listed for $210,000. The lodge, which Indiana purchased in the 1970s, has been vacant for nearly a decade and was previously listed by Maine Preservation as one of the state’s most endangered historic places.
While Indiana’s will originally directed the lodge to be converted into a museum, the foundation faced various legal challenges following his death in 2018. Despite these issues, the foundation had previously stabilized and refurbished the building to host local student art exhibitions.
